Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing Goes Sporty with New NikeLab Collaboration
Written By: Aliecia Brissett
What started with Nike's primary collaborations with athletes and sports icons, is now taking a turn into couture galore with NikeLab's newest collaboration with Balmain creative director Olivier Rousting, for NikeLab X Olivier Rousteing: Football Nouveau collection. And not just stopping with brining glamour to the everyday consumer - like what Rousteing did with retail powerhouse H&M - he can now add the apparel title of athleisure wear under his belt as he swaps out his signature rhinestone embellishments and cut-outs for ribbed cotton sports jackets and sport themed spandex leggings.
Drawing inspiration for the anticipated collection from his childhood admiration for football (soccer) it was a no brainer for the designer to create a line that was both sporty and fashionable. Gearing towards the shade of black and the colour gold, the two colour palettes seemed to fit best for the designer, as the fashion maven felt that the sleekness of black compliments the gold accents of the assorted pieces best. From runners to sport jackets, every piece has a bit of Olivier's Balmain couture touch. From the fitted hooded sport coats with gold zippers, to the spandex sock-like fit of the running shoes, a haute influence is embedded into each garment. And having famous French football players be the face of the collection only seems fitting for the designer to debit his newest collaboration. Why not have professional players from your home country be the models of the next hottest fashion item?
Taking to the popular athleisure aesthetic - which is the combination of sportswear and fashion and has been seen on many celebrity endorsed clothing lines such as Beyoncé and Kate Hudson - Rousteing fuses the tradition of soccer apparel and fashion to create a collection fitting for both the fashion enthusiast and athletes. Whether you choose to rock the latest threads at the grocery store, to the movies, or just wearing the clothes around the house, any and everyone will be taking a piece of football history with them with the new NikeLab X Olivier Rousteing Football Nouveau collection.
Check out some of the items for yourself and see what you think! The collection will be available beginning June 2 at nike.com/nikelab and select NikeLab stores.
